Darmstadt, Germany [APD; CD EUDNews]. September 30, 2014. The Marienhöhe school centre in Darmstadt, has 667 students this year, 19 less than last year. Of these, 447 are in high school, 164 in “Realschule” and 56 in elementary school. The boarding house accommodates 39 students and only 13 percent of students come from Adventist homes. Of the 66 teachers, 36 of them are Seventh-day Adventists.

The educational centre was founded in 1924 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and since 1950 has been a nationally recognized school. “Realschule” was added in 1994 and elementary in 2010.

According to Reiner Junek, deputy director of Marienhöhe school centre, the graduates achieved a grade point average of 2.29 this year. Thus, it is proof that Marienhöhe is in a leading position compared to other schools in Hesse. In addition, 65 percent of high school students managed to finish grade 10 and were promoted to secondary school, what a great performance. For years, Marienhöhe has been recognized by the Hessian Ministry of Education as a Health Promoting School. The teachers are frequently trained so that they can use the best methods for teaching. The classrooms are equipped with the latest technical facilities. In addition, the students have access to such programs as drug prevention week, school trips or adventure camps available during the holidays.
