Bucharest, Romania [Andreas Mazza, CD EUDNews]. October 27, 2014. On Wednesday, October 22, 2014, a conference on 'Liberty & Conscience' was held in the Romanian Palace of the Parliament. The event was organized by the Department of Religious Liberty of the Romanian Union, under the leadership of its director, Nelu Burcea.

The attendance included: Titus Corlatean, Foreign Affairs minister, Remus Pricopie, minister of Education, as well as ambassadors, parliamentarians, academicians, and leaders of several denominations.

In addition to local leaders, the Religious Liberty Department of the Seventh-day Adventist Church was present through John Graz, director of the Department of Religious Freedom at the General Conference and Secretary General of IRLA (www.irla.org), and Ganoune Diop, representative of the Adventist Church at the United Nations in New York. In addition, Liviu Olteanu was also among the hosts, as director of the Department of Religious Freedom for the Inter-European Division in Bern and Secretary General of AIDLR (www.aidlr.org).

The subject was approached from different perspectives, but always in harmony with the same principle: freedom of religion and conscience is fundamental for the dignity of men and essential for the foundation of human rights.

Detailed reports of the various interventions will be provided in the articles which will follow.

The event was hosted in the gigantic Palace of Parliament, located in the center of Bucharest. Much could be said about this building, which is the largest one built around the world during the last thirty years, but the related information is easily available on Internet. One thing is sure, however: this conference had at its disposal all the desirable facilities.
