AUTENTHIC Camp Meeting in Romania

Almost 700 participants renew their commitment to Christ.

AUTENTHIC Camp Meeting in Romania

The first Camp Meeting developed in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Moldova Conference, Romania took place in July, 18-21 at the Youth Centre Cosna, near Vatra Dornei Resort, Suceava County. At the root of Calimani Mountains, in the middle of nature, the four day camp meeting brought about a series of events: seminaries, fellowship, and Bible study, cherish of the Word, occasions of recommitment, prayer, relations rebuilding, worship and gratitude to God.

In Sabbath afternoon three persons witnessed their faith and were baptized and in the evening there was held the Lord Supper.

All those events were organized so that the almost 700 participants renew their commitment to Christ, rebuild their relations with the others for better serving their neighbors and hasten our Lord’s coming.

The moto of the meeting was the word “Authentic”, God’s ideal since Creation, and there were two leading Bible verses for that: 2 Corinthians 3:3 (“You show that you are a letter from Christ”) and 1 John 4:17 (“In this world we are like Jesus”).

Each special guest called for consecration, reassessment of personal relationships and the relation with God, and authentic ministry to fulfill the expectations of all Christians: the return of Christ.

On Thursday evening, Pastor Tiberiu Nica, President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church - Moldova Conference, followed by pastor Grig Leordean, spoke at the opening of the event:

"We did not invent this project. We did not "give birth" to this idea. It is a program created years ago, the pioneers of the Adventist church had camp meetings, and their purpose always was, beyond the missionary, to renew the relationship of the participants with God. It was more a revival, a consecration, not just a mere meeting, "said Tiberiu Nica, President of the Moldova Conference, at the beginning of the meeting.

Grig Leordean, Pastor in Miami, Florida presented the series of sermons entitled "Heroes of Faith" - the ideal of man that God created for the gaining of souls. He spoke about the beauty of the character of Christ and the way it was reflected in His followers, Christians of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

In the same time the camp meeting was a strong appeal for the need of authenticity in the lives of Christ’s ambassadors, as Pastor Marius Munteanu, Director of Education Department EUD, defined Christians, the community of believers who confess Christ as Lord and Savior: "An ambassador of Christ must educate, mediate and be authentic, especially in the relationships of everyday life..."

Laurentiu Ionescu, Pastor in Spain, exposed moral and ethical issues that are more and more frequently encountered not only in the academic environment, but also in the church. He showed how actual is the Bible and how urgent is the need for each Christian to seek, to find and to have clear answers to the problems facing the society we live in.

Pastor George Pirlitu, Secretary of the Seventh-day Adventist Church – Romanian Union, urged us to make Jesus our personal Saviour. It was not only an exciting moment, but also a real consecration. He invited those who need intercession prayer to come in front. People "in rushed" to come in front, without the need for a second call.

The Adventist Church mission was felt till Iacobeni, in the vicinity of Cosna. A team of pastors and Bible workers along with 30 other volunteers shared books such as “Health through Food” and “Well-being”. The locals appreciated the seriousness and involvement of young people in health, lifestyle and education issues. There have been positive reactions, and those who have received Sola Scriptura leaflets to study the Bible have shown a real interest in the Word of God.

Space and time spent at Cosna were too short for the need of peace, trust in God, fellowship, and the faith that, yes, Lord comes soon! Those were reinforced by the baptism and holy supper that took place.

The “Authentic” Camp Meeting would not have been possible without the involvement of all departments of the churches and volunteers of Moldova Conference. The need for authenticity was felt over the Calimani Mountains as a call to real consecration expressed in the words of the hymn reproduced below:

Let’s Be Authentic (Lyrics: Benoni Catană, Music: Andrei Lucaci)

1. A whole world, sick with death, Walks in the fog on the stray road, Hungry for love and justice. It wants to see you, repentant Christian.

Refrain: In deeds if we were stronger! The words do not feed anymore. There is a great need for us to be authentic! The signs of the time are hurrying.

2. The crowds run on the road of pleasure, They think it's well what's in fact wrong... When there's nobody to repair the compass, Can you have peace in your soul?

3. There is a great need for people in the world: People who cannot be sold for nothing, People who cannot be overturned Even if heaven had collapsed!
