The “Rise Up and Walk” Association brings together thousands of people with disabilities from 30 cities across the country.

The opening of the National Center for Activities for Persons with Disabilities is the start of a large project. It envisages increasing the accommodation capacity, offering a wide range of high standard services, as well as accessibility to current standards. [All these carry us] concretely towards an objective that we want to achieve in the near future,” explained Lucian Aldea, president of the “Rise Up and Walk” Association.

About the “Rise Up and Walk” Association:

In 2017, the “Rise Up and Walk” Association initiated a unique project in Romania—"The Center of Mobility". This Center of the “Rise Up and Walk” Association is a project that was created as a means of assisting in the need for mobility, free of charge, for people with disabilities in the capital, where over 67,000 residents are persons with physical problems.

It is more than a free taxi, because it offers a full service: an accessible car, specially designed for the transport of people with disabilities, runs to pharmacies, hospitals, social assistance offices, police stations, train stations, visits, and other associations. Sandu Uţă, the driver of the project, and Elena Pătraşcu, the companion of the Association, are delighted that they can help those who call for these services free of charge, and the reactions of those who are assisted are of gratitude and great joy.

For the past 8 years, the “Rise Up and Walk” Association has organized a camp for people with disabilities every summer, where programs and festivities have been held daily.

The average participation rate in these years was 170-200 people, including people with disabilities, their companions, and volunteers.

The Association for People with Disabilities, “Rise Up and Walk”, aims to achieve a family climate between people with locomotor and vision disabilities, united through friendship, suffering, hope, faith, and love.
