Bern, Switzerland [CD EUDNews]. The “Campus Adventiste du Salève” (French Adventist University) is proud and happy to announce the start up of a new department, the ‘Institute for Human Sciences’, and a new section of this department, the professional ‘Master’s in Christian Counselling’.

After three years, the pastor/psychologist Jacques Poujol, the Protestant Association “Footprint Trainings” and the Adventist Campus have finally come together for a proposal training. They have received accreditation from the Adventist world church and from the European Association of Christian counseling.

The first two academic years will start September 2013, in Collonges, through intensive weekly programs, or in Paris on Sundays. It will consist of lectures, personal assignments, internship and a final dissertation. The main goal is to learn different approaches to psychology and better integrate with Protestant Theology (evangelical orientation) and Christian values. By promoting individual and relational growth, people have access to a better life.

Students taking this course, will get a Master’s degree that will qualify them to open a Counselling office, to complete or redirect their current profession and to provide services for people suffering and in need.

The Campus Adventiste du Salève

Le Campus Adventiste du Salève, also known as the Adventist University of France – Collonges, belongs to the global educational system of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is affiliated with Partnership of Adventist Colleges in Europe, (PACE). The university is located about five miles from Geneva across the Swiss-French border. The campus itself is part way up Le Salève, the top of which is about 4,000 feet high. This mountain with its restaurants and breath-taking view of the Rhône valley or Mont Blanc attracts many from nearby Geneva. From the campus, the city of Geneva and the Lake Geneva make a picturesque view. On the same campus are located schools from kindergarten to senior high school levels.

Collonges-sous-Salève, the village where the campus is located, is situated in the French département of Haute-Savoie, named "Upper Savoy" for its location in the foothills of the Alps mountain range.

The first Adventist seminary in Europe was established in 1903 at Gland in Switzerland. This was transferred to Collonges-sous-Salève in 1921, and took the name of Séminaire adventiste du Salève (Adventist Seminary of the Saleve). Being the first European Adventist seminary, it contributed to the training of hundreds of pastors in Europe and has sent missionaries around the world. From 1955, the institution offered a 4-year training program.

The Adventist Church operates 7598 schools, colleges and universities, with a total enrollment of more than 1.545.000 students and approximately 80.000 teachers. It claims to operate 'one of the largest church-supported educational systems in the world'.
