The Austrian Union of Seventh-day Adventists has unveiled a significant restructuring of its media departments to establish a cohesive digital evangelism strategy aimed specifically at engaging young adults aged 20 to 30.
This initiative merges two previously distinct teams—HopeKurse, the organization's digital Bible correspondence program, and the Communications and Media department—into an integrated approach that harnesses modern technology and social media to convey Christian messages to Austria's younger generation.
Adapting Faith for the Digital Age
"We recognize that reaching today's young adults necessitates a different approach than traditional methods," remarked union representatives. The new strategy emphasizes engaging young people where they are—online and on platforms such as YouTube and Instagram.
HopeKurse has transformed from a conventional mail-based Bible study program into a sophisticated online platform equipped with expertise in search engine optimization and digital content creation. Meanwhile, the Communications and Media team brings professional video production, social media management, and brand development skills to the initiative.
Targeting Life's Big Questions
Through street interviews conducted in Vienna, the teams discovered that many young adults are already pondering profound questions about life’s meaning and purpose. This new digital evangelism approach specifically targets individuals who are open to exploring whether faith can provide answers to these fundamental inquiries.
"We're not trying to reach everyone," the teams emphasized. "Our focus is on those who are actively searching for something deeper in life."
A Modern Approach to Ancient Messages
The restructured organization will operate two specialized teams: one dedicated to external digital outreach and evangelism, and another focused on internal church communication and support. This division allows each team to cultivate expertise in their respective areas while working toward shared objectives.
The digital evangelism team has developed what they call an "outreach funnel"—a systematic approach that guides interested individuals from initial online contact through an increasing engagement with biblical content, ultimately connecting them with local church communities.
Pilot Program Underway
Currently, the Austrian Union is piloting this new approach over the next 6 to 12 months. The results will inform future digital evangelism efforts and could serve as a model for other regions.
This initiative represents a significant investment in reaching Austria's digitally-native generation, delivering traditional Christian messages through contemporary channels and methods.
