Due to weather conditions the last few days, Bucharest and several locations in 20 counties - Bacau, Brăila, Botosani, Buzău, Contanţa, Calarasi, Covasna, Dolj, Gorj, Galati, Iasi, Ilfov, Neamt, Prahova, Sibiu, Suceava, Tulcea, Teleorman, Vrancea and Vaslui - were affected by heavy rainfall. After the floods, preventive measures were taken in the locations where the risk was the greatest. It was difficult to estimate the damage, and needs were great. The most destitute and vulnerable are the elderly, especially those who have no help from relatives close by.

ADRA Romania provided first aid on site under the project "Hope above water". After ADRA Romania received the news and call for help from field assistants all over the country, ADRA quickly prepared to support flooded families in providing food, water and hygiene articles.

“Also this time, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Romania is close to those who suffer and respond with love to the needs of the flood victims from Moldova, Transylvania, Muntenia, Dobrogea and the Oltenia region. I encourage my brothers and sisters to look to our Father in heaven who gave everything and to remember our Saviour's words, "It is better to give than to receive!" It is time to get involved and bring comfort to the afflicted. Today is the day our Heavenly Father invites us to commit," said Stefan Tomoiaga, President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Romania.

“ADRA Romania joins the call wholeheartedly, for solidarity with the flood victims and will provide emergency humanitarian intervention adding to the efforts from the authorities, building materials and support for rebuilding homes. We are called to be the extended arms in addition to material and financial donations that are so much needed these days, all volunteers can find a place in this humanitarian intervention" said Robert Georgescu, Country Director for ADRA Romania.

Those who want to join the ADRA Romania team and get involved wholeheartedly can do so, by:
volunteering, material donations (food, hygiene and cleaning, clothing and footwear, blankets and building materials), financial donations to ADRA accounts, by donating directly to the site adra.ro/doneaza for the project "Hope above water" (Speranta mai presus de ape).

To respond promptly to the needs of flood victims, ADRA local coordinators across the country will intervene on-site to help people in difficulty. All those who wish to join the ADRA Romania team and get involved can do so by contacting the area managers or ADRA project coordinators.
