On June 10, 2025, students were sitting in their classrooms at a secondary school in Graz when a 21-year-old Austrian man shot dead nine people, before killing himself.

Twelve people were injured in Tuesday morning's violence, with one person dying hours later in hospital from their injuries.

The incident was the deadliest mass shooting in Austria's recent history and the country has declared three days of mourning.

 The tragic shooting on June 10, 2025, at BORG Dreierschützengasse in Graz has left us in profound sorrow and disbelief. Eleven precious lives were cut short, including nine vibrant youths, a dedicated teacher, and the perpetrator himself. Our hearts ache for all those impacted by this unimaginable tragedy – the grieving families, the distraught classmates, the devoted educators, and the brave first responders who rushed to the scene.

In these dark and painful moments, compassion, heartfelt listening, and simply being present for one another become our guiding lights. We implore our church members and all compassionate souls to rise up and be beacons of hope in their communities – offering prayers, solace, and selfless acts of love to those who are suffering.

Let us hold onto the belief that even in the deepest darkness, God’s light can shine through us. It is through our unwavering support and palpable presence for one another that we can illuminate the path ahead and foster healing in our hearts.
