On June 17, the Seventh-day Adventist Church officially opened its new joint administrative headquarters for the North and South German Unions. Located on the campus of the Marienhöhe Adventist School Center in Darmstadt, the facility was established by renovating a former boarding school dormitory into a modern office building.
Shared Vision and Structural Evolution
During the opening ceremony, Johannes Naether, president of the North German Union, delivered a devotional tracing the project's timeline from its approval in December 2020 to its completion, framing the joint office as a foundation for future church operations.
Werner Dullinger, president of the South German Union, provided a historical overview of the structural cooperation:
Post-Reunification: Merger of the East and West German Unions into the North German Union.
1990s–2000s: Initial merger attempts failed to secure necessary delegate majorities.
2013: Strategic decision to intensify cooperation through shared departments (e.g., finance, administration, youth ministry, and communication).
Dullinger emphasized that the joint office serves as a visible symbol of unity. This integration aligns with the upcoming agenda for the delegate session in Erfurt (May 21–24, 2027), where a final decision regarding a full organizational merger will be voted on—an initiative that recently received support from the General Conference Executive Committee.

Representatives from various Christian denominations attended the inauguration to offer congratulations:
Reverend Christopher Easthill (Chairman of the Council of Christian Churches in Germany, ACK) commended the historic move and acknowledged the Church’s active involvement as an ACK guest member since 1993. James Ros (Association of Evangelical Free Churches, VeF) praised the Adventists' social engagement, holistic lifestyle, and exemplary standards in safeguarding and abuse prevention. Dr. Lothar Triebel (Institute for Ecumenical Research, Bensheim) noted that, unlike many ecclesiastical restructurings, this consolidation was driven by strategic choice rather than financial necessity. Dr. Ralf Grünke (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and Claude Richli (representing the Adventist General Conference) also extended formal blessings and congratulations.
The event featured musical performances by Ismael Grenz and Nathanael Riedel, concluding with a benediction by Wolfgang Schick, Chief Financial Officer of both German Unions.
Context: 150 Years of Adventism in Germany
The opening coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Germany, operating under the jubilee theme, "Courage for Tomorrow." Following the first baptisms and congregation establishments in 1876, the denomination has grown significantly.
Current Statistics: The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Germany currently reports over 34,000 baptized members across 544 congregations and 32 registered groups.
