Literacy Course for Immigrants Concluded in Ragusa, Sicily

The ceremony for the delivery of certificates in the Adventist Church of Ragusa concluded the IX Literacy Course for Immigrants with a focus on work. At the event on Saturday, 7 December, the young people who attended the course—locally coordinated by ADRA in collaboration with Sycurvita Srl, a company that deals with safety in the workplace—were presented. Mayor Giuseppe Cassì and the councilor for community development, Giovanni Iacono, also spoke and delivered the certificates.
Beginning on 12 November, the 30-hour program provided the basics of the Italian language, and specific workplace-related activities. In fact, a course for "operator of industrial forklifts with driver on board (forklift driver)" was also held, with the issuing of the mandatory certificates required by Legislative Decree 81/2008, essential for operating safely. Like every year, a cultural activity to learn about the area and the city rounded up the training.
The entire course is free, mainly financed by ADRA Italia thanks to the religious tax funds (Ottopermille) of the Adventist Church, and is aimed at facilitating integration and entry into the workplace.
In his speech during the ceremony for the delivery of the certificates, Councilor Iacono expressed appreciation for the initiative.
“Every year, I follow the praiseworthy activities of ADRA and the Adventist Church of Ragusa,” he explained. “These are concrete and effective actions for the employment of young migrants who learn a trade and have a lot of desire along with industrious and constructive commitment and who, while acquiring the dignity of honest work, will integrate and give value to the human and social heritage of the city.”
