In an effort to strengthen the inclusion and well-being of the elderly, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Spain continues to serve the growing population of elderly parishioners over 60 years of age. On this occasion, the proposal was music therapy workshops.
According to data from the National Institute of Aging (INE), by 2040, 30% of the Spanish population will be over 65 years old, and, in Adventist churches, this figure could double. Currently, 6% of the general population are octogenarians, a percentage that rises to 10% within these congregations. Faced with this reality, churches see a unique opportunity to accompany and enrich the lives of their elders with meaningful activities.
Music therapy workshops for the elderly
One of the pillars of this initiative is music therapy, an effective tool to improve the emotional and cognitive health of the elderly. Studies indicate that 1 in 10 people over 65 suffer from depression, 20% suffer from chronic anxiety, and more than 30% of those over 80 are diagnosed with Alzheimer's. In addition, social isolation is a determining factor in the mental health of this population.
To address these challenges, churches are promoting musical workshops that offer a space for recreation and connection, along with contributing to stress and anxiety reduction, and improving the motor and cognitive skills of participants.

The Music School of the Sagunto Adventist Campus (CAS) provides support and training for those who wish to coordinate these workshops. It is not necessary to have advanced musical knowledge or psychological studies, just enthusiasm and a well-organized plan. Anyone interested, whether young, adult, or even octogenarian, can lead these activities and generate a positive impact in the lives of many people.
Adventist churches in Spain call on their members and leaders to open their doors to this needy population, creating spaces where music, fellowship and faith become powerful tools to improve the quality of life of the elderly. In the process, the church communities will be able to get closer to those who do not yet know Jesus, inviting them to our workshops.
