There Are Many Reasons for Joy in the Life of the Church

There are many reasons for joy in the life of the church. Each one is unique and brings new encouragement to the community of believers. Among the most powerful moments are undoubtedly the ordinations of pastors—especially when it involves people who have faithfully served the Lord and the church for many years.

Such an event took place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in the Seventh-day Adventist Church congregation in Trenčín. The church hall was filled with festively-minded visitors from all over Slovakia, who came to witness the ordination of two pastors who also lead important departments within the church.

Marek Majtán-Černák serves full-time as the head of the youth and missions department. Rastislav Špalek leads the literature evangelism department and also serves as the pastor of the congregations in Trenčín and Vaďovce, as well as a group in Myjava.

Church leaders were also present at the service—from the Czecho-Slovak Union: president Peter Čík, secretary David Čančík, and administrators of the Slovak Conference: president František Kolesár, secretary Daniel Márföldi, and treasurer Daniel Majdiš.

The morning program began with Sabbath School, led by local pastor Rastislav Špalek. The service was enriched by musical performances—Karol Bartakovič from Topoľčany, siblings Tomáš and Adéla Majtán with little Emily—and poetry shared by Mária Hletková from the Vaďovce congregation. The children’s story was told by CSU secretary David Čančík, and the sermon from the Word of God was delivered by union president Peter Čík, who also led the ordination ceremony.

After the candidates were introduced by Slovak Conference president František Kolesár, a significant moment followed—the ordained pastors came forward to the platform, where their colleagues prayed for them. Through the laying on of hands, they expressed a request for blessing, acceptance into ministry, and support for their future service.

The celebration culminated in heartfelt congratulations and emotional expressions of gratitude. The congratulations and best wishes were directed not only to the pastors themselves but also to their wives, Anna Majtán-Černáková and Monika Špalková, who stand beside them and are an integral part of their ministry. Many of those present did not hesitate to show their respect and appreciation to these women, whose support and dedication significantly contribute to the spiritual work of their husbands.

We are grateful to the Lord that the number of ordained pastors has grown by two devoted servants, whose lives and work bear witness to His guidance and grace. Despite the rainy weather, the gathering was filled with joy, gratitude, and encouragement.

Let us remember Marek Majtán-Černák and Rastislav Špalek in our prayers. May their ministry bear fruit in their congregations, church departments, and wherever the Lord may call them.
