Bern, Switzerland [CD EUDNews]. Pastor António Monteiro has spent almost 2 years in prison without a trial. He is detained in the Civil Prison of Lome in Togo. The Adventist pastor in Togo, Antonio Monteiro, along with the church elder, Bruno Amah, spent almost two years in prison for a false accusation.

The person who reported, retracted later the false accusation. Prosecutors found no evidence against Monteiro and Amah and judges instructed the case. However, they are still in prison for nearly two years.

Last year, it was decided to put both provisional in liberty, but a crowd of people joined together right in front of the prison, protesting against their release. Thus, they remained in prison. It was decided to do not release them.

December 6 was the appointed day for the trial, that will determine the future of both adventist members, but the court decided to postpone the hearing until January 10.

Today is the day of the trial, at 9 am, european time. "We encourage all readers to offer their prayers today. We want to pray today for brother Monteiro and brother Amah. We want them to be immediately free, that their innocence may be acknowledged, that justice can be recognized as such, that the Lord will give wisdom to those who must give judgment but above all that they can turn home and give joy to their families in apprehension," said Corrado Cozzi, EUD Communication Director.
