On Thursday, January 21, 2021, the miracle happened! The joy is immeasurable in Codruța Bodor’s family, as she became the new owner of a house in Tărlungeni commune, Brașov county.
The building, owned by a donor, was donated to ADRA Romania in the summer of 2018, and Codruța and her three children have lived in it since the summer of 2020. The process of completing the legal documents and arranging and sanitizing the new home took several months. At the third appointment to draw up the donation contract, the miracle happened: with the support and involvement of ADRA Romania, Codruța Bodor found peace with her three children in a warm home, through the project “Finally, home!”
Codruța Bodor has never felt the warmth of a home. Abandoned by her mother and unwanted by her grandmother, she took her life into her own hands from a very young age. At only 8 years old, she left her grandmother's house, where she had received words that were hard to bear for a much too young age. She lived at the mercy of people, taking refuge where she could, but continuing school. After reaching the age of majority, she became the mother of a little boy named Codruț. Abandoned again, this time by the man who was supposed to be with her in her new parenting experience, without a shelter and a stable income, she chose to raise her child alone and give him what she had, namely her love.
Eventually, Codruța settled down in the house of a young man raised in a foster home. After some time, two little girls were born, and for a short time, Codruța felt the joy of a family. But the increasingly frequent conflicts with her mother-in-law pushed her to take her children and leave. Homeless again, and again at the mercy of people, she raised her voice in prayer. Only the good God could help her! On a Sunday in 2017, returning to a friend's house, she saw a show about the Adventist Agency for Development, Recovery, and Help – ADRA Romania. She wrotes down the phone number presented, hoping that would be the answer. He was contacted by the ADRA Romania project manager from the Brașov area. In a short time, there was a house where she would stay for three months. After that, through the representative of the association, a real estate company offered her a studio in the city of Brasov. Here, her life began to take on color.
Meanwhile, for the sake of the children, she married the girls' father. Although there was interest shown in the children, the relationship oscillated, sprinkled with insecurity and frustration. But there was still good news: thanks to the goodwill of a sponsor/donor who donated her aunt's house to ADRA, this mother recently received a house, the home she had not had. But the house needed renovation. Codruța and her husband worked hard to arrange the two rooms and the kitchen. ADRA has continuously supported them, morally, financially, and through labor. Today, the little girl is 7 years old. The children are all beautiful and healthy. They have adapted to the new location, made friends, and started school with enthusiasm. “After a long pilgrimage, the Bodor family can say that they FINALLY got HOME!” said Adina Nițu Project Manager. “I'm glad we have a house of our own and we don't have to move!” said Codruța Bodor, the beneficiary of the ADRA project “Finally, at home!” She concluded, “I can't even believe that I don't have the stress anymore [of thinking] that I have to move again and I don't know where. The children [have gotten] used to it here, they [have] made friends, they enjoy the yard, they like school. We have a new beginning and I want everything to be good, to find work, to be good for the children. I have no words to thank ADRA Romania and God for being kind to us and taking care of us!”
The project "Finally, at home!" is how ADRA Romania builds social housing for disadvantaged families; families who are selected in collaboration with local authorities. Every year, ADRA builds several such homes, thus contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of disadvantaged people. This project is carried out in partnership with local authorities, and funding comes from both individuals and legal entities. The implementation of the project is done with the help of volunteers from the country, but also from abroad.
