Two Adventist institutions, the German Association for Health Care e. V. (DVG) and the Waldfriede Health Network (Berlin) want to work together in the future. This was announced by Sara Salazar Winter, executive chairwoman of the DVG, Bernd Quoß, executive director of the Waldfriede Hospital, and Werner Dullinger, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Southern Germany. The cooperation is scheduled to start on January 1, 2022.

According to Werner Dullinger, the idea of closer cooperation between the DVG and the Waldfriede network originated on the board of the Adventist Church in Germany. Guidelines for a future cooperation were developed in workshops and decided by the association members and the supervisory board.

"Even though DVG and Krankenhaus Waldfriede have their focus in different sectors of the health care system (preventive / curative), they share the common philosophy of a holistic view of man and can benefit from each other on a professional and research level," says Dullinger.

Passing on new medical findings

As the largest Adventist health care facility in Europe, Krankenhaus Waldfriede has continued to develop at a high medical level, especially in the last seven years, said Bernd Quoß. For example, he said, nutritional physiology takes on an essential role in the hospital's oncology program, so the focus has been on nutritional screening as well as a medical nutrition management program for years. "This means that, for us, nutritional therapy is an integral part of patients' medical care and recovery," Quoß said. According to him, the Waldfriede network is eager to share these insights in collaboration with DVG for the benefit of people, patients, and community members. The advantages of working together, he said, lie in the cooperative division of labor and networking. The Waldfriede network will primarily provide the medical knowledge, while the DVG will impart this knowledge in training and course measures.

Further joint projects planned

Sara Salazar Winter is also optimistic about the cooperation: "We have started cooperation in the field of training and from next year, we will be able to offer high quality training in the field of health and prevention". Another cooperation, she said, will be an annual health day that will serve as a training and meeting day for DVG local groups, health advisors, and people in health professions. Together, they will decide whether stronger cooperation is possible in other areas as well. According to Winter, DVG's educational offerings will be expanded with a trainer/coach training program and an online course concept.
