The war that started on February 24 had devastating humanitarian effects in Ukraine. It led to the displacement of the population, both inside Ukraine and at the borders of neighboring countries.

As people are evacuated from big cities and head for the borders, they often bring only what they can take with them. Many refugees end up walking long distances due to the limited operation of transport systems and damage to infrastructure, such as roads and bridges. When they reach the borders, there are long lines of people, with stays up to 20 hours.

After a long and difficult journey, many Ukrainian refugees also reached Italy.

Among them, 37 families, housed in the Florence area, received recently food bank parcels. On the occasion of the delivery, the Municipality of Florence councillor, Titta Meucci, said: "Today, the Civil Defence of the Municipality of Florence, with the help of some affiliated voluntary associations, delivered food parcels provided by the food bank to 37 Ukrainian families in difficulty, housed in private accommodation in the municipal territory. A concrete help for a total of 105 people, including many children."

"Special thanks go to ADRA Italia, a humanitarian agency of the Seventh-day Adventist Christian Church, which took care of the packaging of the food parcels," Councillor Meucci continued, "and to the Municipality's Civil Protection Service, which took care of the coordination and logistics.”
