Many are familiar with the General Conference (GC) Sessions that occur once every quinquennium. However, what happens during the five years between sessions?
In between sessions, the World Church’s Executive Committee meets twice a year, at Spring Meetings in April and Annual Council in October, to vote on critical items that affect the church's operation. This year, Annual Council will be held from October 6 - 12 at the GC headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.
At these meetings, the Executive Committee discusses important topics like church policies, new GC initiatives, and reviews ministry reports. Furthermore, they gather to pray and worship as they discuss other critical world church matters.
The Executive Committee is the second highest governing body of the Seventh-day Adventist Church after the General Conference Session. The Executive Committee is comprised of delegates, including directors, officers, and leaders from the General Conference, divisions, and unions. The committee also includes laypeople, pastors, and other invitees.
Annual Council 2022 will be the first in-person meeting since the pandemic. Nevertheless, the world church can also join the meetings via live stream here. The first meeting will commence on October 6, at 8:00 am EST.
As these meetings begin, please join the Executive Committee in praying for the leadership and outpouring of the Holy Spirit. May we, the Church, remain focused on the mission and be committed to God’s call by responding, “I Will Go.”
