These were the words of Mário Brito, outgoing President of the Inter-European Division (EUD), after completing his first interview following the end of his term and the passing of the baton in the Presidency. Listen to the interview at the link below.
Mário Brito was born in Praia, Cape Verde, in 1955. He arrived in Lisbon in 1973 and decided to be baptized two years later. He studied in Sagunto, Collonges, and Andrews, completing his Master’s degree in Theology in 1994. He began his pastoral ministry in 1981 and was ordained as a pastor in 1987. He served in various churches in the Portuguese Union, was President of the same Union from 1997 to 2005, and served in the Inter-European Division as Director of the Sabbath School and Personal Ministries Department, as well as the Ministerial Association, and since 2015, as President.
July 7, 2025, marked the last day of his presidency — ten years defined by an evangelistic spirit, a posture of closeness, and an unwavering commitment to building future leadership and strengthening unity in mission across his territory.
“What will you do now, Pastor Mário? Return to Portugal?” asked Ezequiel Duarte, Communication Director for Portugal, in a follow-up interview.
“I don’t know yet,” Mário Brito replied humbly, with a smile. “I’m praying, waiting for God to tell me what to do. All I know is that I won’t stop serving people, especially those who suffer the most.”
Mário Brito and his wife, Maria José, along with their daughter, Estela, now begin a new chapter in service to Jesus — in a book that only God will close, here on Earth.
