Generation to Serve Project in Spain

On Sunday, May 11, two buses filled with enthusiastic young volunteers arrived to dedicate their time to assisting those impacted by the torrential rains on October 29. As part of the Generation to Serve project, the GPS camp visited the ADRA Spain logistics warehouse in Albalat dels Sorells, Valencia, to engage in volunteer work at this vital facility, which coordinates ADRA's aid efforts in the region.

The GPS camp incorporated volunteer service with ADRA into its scheduled activities. Nearly 140 young individuals participated, actively collaborating with the ongoing daily operations at the logistics center in Albalat dels Sorells. Since last November, the warehouse, provided by Hermanos Vázquez S.A., has been instrumental in channeling donations and essential materials to address the emergency caused by the torrential rains. Access to this facility has been crucial in maintaining stable and efficient aid in the area, with over 5,000 people assisted in the initial months of the emergency at ADRA’s service points in Paiporta, Catarroja, and Benetússer, serving between 300 and 400 families daily.

The collaboration of the GPS camp youth with ADRA Spain allowed these volunteers to witness firsthand the impact of the Adventist NGO’s work in the flood-affected areas. ADRA Spain extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the participants and their directors, Maijo Roth and Joan Llorca, for their dedication, collaboration, and service to those in need. This effort will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on families who, seven months after the disaster, continue to face vulnerability.

Currently, ADRA is undertaking comprehensive renovations on seven homes and has initiated various levels of refurbishment for a total of 28 houses in Benetússer, Paiporta, Aldaia, Catarroja, Sedaví, Massanassa, Alfafar, and Riba Roja. The financial investment in materials alone exceeds €35,500. Following these renovations, ADRA has also supported the provision of appliances, furniture, and other essential household items, with over €15,000 spent on targeted purchases for these homes.

Since January, several donations of brand-new refrigerators, washing machines, and small appliances, as well as mattresses and bedding, have been received. Additionally, volunteers are sorting and preparing donated second-hand items to ensure they are delivered in the best possible condition.

Supporting Flood-Affected Communities in Covasna County, Romania

In Southern Transylvania, recent torrential rains have caused significant flooding, resulting in road closures and the isolation of entire communities. Local authorities, alongside ADRA’s assessment team, report that a total of 705 people have been evacuated from the communes of Băcel and Boroșneu Mare in Covasna County due to the imminent danger posed by rapidly rising water levels. The situation in these communities remains critical, with many households destroyed and families unable to safely return to their homes.

In response, ADRA Romania has launched the project “Hope Beyond the Waters – Covasna 2025” to support affected families. The ADRA team has assessed the most urgent needs on the ground and is working in partnership with local authorities to provide emergency humanitarian assistance, guided by principles of solidarity and compassion. ADRA Romania calls for solidarity from all who can help, encouraging everyone to join this humanitarian effort to offer hope and support to those who have lost their possessions due to this natural disaster.
